Antique 2 Handle Multi-Colour Vase

€590.00
Sold

This antique and rare piece of terracotta pottery originates from the southern Italian region of Calabria and dates back to the mid 1800s. The one of a kind vase with its multi colour ‘brushstroke’ glaze effect would have been originally used for preserving a family’s most valued food such as anchovies, sardines, figs, eggplants, artichokes or olives in olive oil. The wonderful colour combination of indigo blue, eggplant purple and mustard yellow are set against a soft ivory base. This large, hand thrown vessel has a wonderful surface brought about from years of daily use - that magical patina that only the passing of time can bring. Today, this vase would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece to add impact to a home or space.

Found in Alessano

the charming small Salento town home to some magnificent noble palazzi and important families who resided in and around the town.

Dimensions: H31cm x W27cm x D25cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
