Antique Abstract Tree of Life Pot

€160.00
Sold

This antique piece is a unique example of confit pots of the region - with its simply elegant form and handles, and a minimally abstract hand painted motif in ink blue that adorns the front. Dating back to the early 1900s, the large hand thrown pot was originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs or olives in olive oil and would have been in domestic use up until the 1950s/60s. The spirited blue hand painted decoration is set against a matt buttermilk glaze and signifies good fortune and longevity, and renders the pot a one of a kind piece. Today, it would make an ideal vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece.

Found in Ostuni

the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as the città bianca (‘white city’).

Dimensions: H21cm x W19cm x D16cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
