Antique Calabrese Pharmacy Mug

€140.00
Sold

A charming, antique mug that dates back to the mid 1800s and originates from the southern Italian region of Calabria. This handmade piece was primarily used by pharmacies to contain medicinal preparations such as ointments, powders and electuaries. The antique mug features an abstract hand painted motif in verdant green, set against a buttermilk glaze, to identify its contents. This antique piece of pottery is a truly unique find especially when pared with the accompanying matching pot as seen in the images. Today, with their well-loved patina, they would make the perfect decorative display pieces injecting some farmhouse charm to any space or home.

Found in Ostuni

the enchanting hill top town of the valle d’Itria known as la città bianca (or ‘white city’).

Dimensions: H10cm x W16cm x D14cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
