This antique confit pot with its beautiful form originates from the southern Italian region of Calabria. Dating back to the late 1800s, it was originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs or olives in olive oil. Confit pots from the southern Italian region were usually hand painted with a tree of life motif, and this pot is particularly unique with its specks of pistachio green, most likely occurring due to proximity with other green glazed pots during the firing process. It features a rich buttermilk glaze and that magical patina that only daily use and the passing of time can authentically bring about.
