A rare early-19th-century antique Italian confit pot originating from Calabria, in Southern Italy. Traditionally known as a vasettu, this rustic ceramic vessel was used to preserve prized foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs, aubergines, artichokes and olives in olive oil.

What distinguishes this piece is its rich creamy glaze, which gives way naturally to exposed raw terracotta towards the base, together with its elegant integrated handle. The beautifully aged surface has developed an authentic patina through generations of everyday use and the passage of time.

Found in Lecce, in the Salento region of Puglia, this one-of-a-kind antique Italian vessel brings the warmth and simplicity of Southern Italian farmhouse pottery to a contemporary interior. Today, it works beautifully as a decorative vessel, storage pot or vase for flowers.

Pair it with other antique Southern Italian pottery for a collected Mediterranean farmhouse look.
