This rare hand painted ceramic vase originates from Sicily and dates back to the mid 1800s. The antique vase features a charmingly fluted spout and stylised double handles, typical of pottery from Caltagirone, a Sicilian town renowned for its age old ceramic craft and tradition. This one of a kind piece with its elegant form was most likely used for ceremonies or to hold holy water, as vases with fluted spouts were usually created for this purpose. It has been delicately hand painted with a small floral motif in ink blue across the body, with pastel yellow lines bordering the rim and base of the vase, as well as stripes of pastel green on the unique double handles, and pink stripes at the bottom of the vessel.
