Antique Green Marbled Confit Pot

€185.00
Sold

Antique handmade glazed ceramic anchovy or confit pot, in a beautifully unique iridescent marbling effect that is one of a kind particularly due to its green flecks. The old technique of a marbled glaze is common to Grottaglie, and the cylindrical confit pots found in the area. Originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies or sardines fresh from the Mediterranean, and likely dating back to the early 1900s, it would be ideal for storage or as a decorative display piece.

Found in Grottaglie

the small town in Puglia famous for its ceramic craft.

Dimensions: H25cm x W16cm x D16cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
