Antique Hand Painted 2-Handle Vase

€270.00
Sold

A rare antique hand painted vase that is elegantly refined in its simplicity. Originating from Puglia and dating back to the mid 1800s, this hand thrown ceramic piece would have taken pride of place in a noble family’s palazzo. The attention to detail elevates it from an ‘ordinary’ vase to an extraordinary one. From the stylised handles, the graceful form and elevated pedestal to the hand painted blue lines that elegantly encircle the vase’s outer and inner surfaces - where the inside surfaces were rarely decorated. The ‘vasetto’ demonstrates the skill of the artisan/potter and what sets the stylish piece apart are the very unique handles with ‘mascherone’ or mask motif at the base, added to ward off the evil eye. Today, this truly one of a kind piece would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece that would work effortlessly in any home or space. Create impact with the matching pieces as seen in the images.

Found in Lecce

the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.

Dimensions: H21.5cm x W22cm x D16cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
