Antique Hand Painted Apothecary Jug

€180.00

A very rare apothecary jug with an elegant form and whimsical hand painted design. This antique pitcher-shaped vessel dating back to the mid 1800s was most likely used in a pharmacy to hold medicinal preparations and concoctions, as well as measure for liquids. The rare jug features a serpent-like handle and a strikingly hand painted floral design resembling a bird’s face in ink blue, characteristic of pottery from central Italy. This one-of-a-kind piece has that magical patina that can only be brought about genuinely by daily use and the passing of time. Ideal to add some authentic country charm to any kitchen, create impact with the farmhouse-style ceramics from southern Italy as seen in the images.

Found in Lecce

the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.

Dimensions: H14cm x W17cm x D13cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
