A very rare apothecary jug with an elegant form and whimsical hand painted design. This antique pitcher-shaped vessel dating back to the mid 1800s was most likely used in a pharmacy to hold medicinal preparations and concoctions, as well as measure for liquids. The rare jug features a serpent-like handle and a strikingly hand painted floral design resembling a bird’s face in ink blue, characteristic of pottery from central Italy. This one-of-a-kind piece has that magical patina that can only be brought about genuinely by daily use and the passing of time.
