Antique Hand Painted Blue Border Plate

€150.00
Sold

A charming antique plate that is typical of Pugliese ceramics, with a minimalism that renders it quite ‘modern’ in design. Dating back to the 1800s, the hand thrown plate would have been primarily used to serve a family during meal times, where they would have eaten off the same plate beginning with the father and ending with the children. What makes this piece rare and unique is the hand painted border stripe in a pastel blue colour, set against a buttermilk-hue base. The thick blue stripe is framed by thin lines in ochre brown. The old farmhouse pottery from Puglia, like this large plate, is thick and robust, and has a lovely handmade, rustic feel. The antique plate shows signs of its years of use and has developed a wonderfully authentic patina over time. It would make a lovely addition to the kitchen or table setting, adding some country charm, especially when pared with the matching farmhouse ceramics as seen in the images.

Found in Lecce

the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.

Dimensions: H5.5cm x W29cm x D29cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
