€120.00
Sold

This hand painted plate with its distinctive adornment has a baroque feel, without being overly floral. Dating back to the early 1900s from the southern Italian region of Calabria, the enchanting mix of colours including mustard yellow, cobalt blue and maroon are set against a well-loved buttermilk glaze, giving this piece a real dynamism and uniqueness. Please note the minor repair on the rim, as seen in images - the repaired border has been carefully repainted, which shows its importance as a practical and loved piece by the original owner. The old terracotta pottery from southern regions of Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria, like this plate, have a lovely handmade, rustic feel and were used primarily for everyday, domestic use. This piece would make a lovely addition to the kitchen, as decorative display piece, or a great centrepiece on a table for fruit.

Found in Lecce

the capital of the Salento famous for its Baroque architecture.

Dimensions: H5cm x W28cm x D28cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen
