This antique hand painted jug is a rare find. It dates back to the mid 1700s and originates from Montelupo Fiorentino, considered one of the most important areas of pottery production during the Renaissance. This one-of-a-kind pitcher features a medieval tower in woodland scene at the centre front, with lemon trees on its sides, and linear details on the handle, in fresh hues of orange, yellow and green. The large pitcher with its robust rounded form has the pinched spout typical of wine jugs from Italy. This hand-thrown ceramic vessel would have taken pride of place in a family home. It features a well loved patina brought about authentically from years of daily use and the passing of time. Today, this statement-making jug with its distinctive design would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece.
