Antique Hand Painted 'Righe & Stelle' Plate 2

€135.00
Sold

This antique rustic plate is typical of Pugliese domestic pottery. Dating back to the early 1900s, the charming blue design or ‘righe & stelle’ pattern around the edge is characteristic of the town of Grottaglie - known for its age old ceramic craft. This example is particularly unique because of its hand painted star shape resembling a diamond. The hand thrown piece would have been in use during family mealtimes up until the mid 1900s. The old clay pottery from Puglia, like this plate, is thick and robust, and has a lovely handmade, rustic feel. The well loved serving plate with its buttermilk glaze, although in perfect condition, shows its characteristic signs of age with a wonderful patina brought about authentically by the passing of time and daily use. The antique plate would make a lovely addition to the kitchen, or create a charming table setting with the matching righe & stelle ceramic plates and bowls in various sizes as seen in the images.

Found in Lecce

the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.

Dimensions: H4cm x W22.5cm x D22.5cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
