This antique ‘zuppiera’ dating back to the mid-1800s is a particularly rare find, and was used primarily as a vessel for soups or other liquids. The hand crafted bowl with handles has the minimal and spontaneous hand painted motif in pistachio green adorning both sides typical of the southern Italian region of Calabria. This abstract tree of life motif, traditionally depicted on farmhouse vessels, signifies good fortune and longevity, and was designed with the hopes of a bountiful harvest bringing prosperity to the rural folk at the time. The soup bowl features that magically rustic patina that only daily use and the passing of time can authentically bring about. Please note there is a drainage hole at the bottom of the pot - where later it was utilised as a plant pot. Today, this rustic vessel is the perfect piece to add some Mediterranean charm to any space, especially when pared with the matching pottery from southern Italy as seen in the images.

Found in Martina Franca

the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known for its baroque architecture.

Dimensions: H13.5cm x W24cm x D20cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen. To utilise as vases, it is recommended to use a separate internal water vase or vials for live stems.
