Sold

A very rare hand painted ceramic vase with a magically rustic patina that dates back to the mid 1700s. This unique vase with handles called ‘cuccuma’ in the neighbouring region of Calabria, was originally used for holding liquids (such as water or wine). It features a spirited surface decoration in ochre brown as well as linear design in pistachio green around the main body and rim, set against the soft ivory glaze. This distinctive hand thrown Calabrese vase also features elongated handles, a fluted spout and an elegant form along with a surface patina which has eroded beautifully over time. Today, this large rustic vessel would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or decorative display item to inject some farmhouse charm into any space or home, especially when pared with the antique pottery from southern Italy, as seen in the images.

Found in Tropea

the Calabrese seaside town known as the pearl of the Tyrrhenian.

Dimensions: H30cm x W23cm x D20cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen. To utilise as vases, it is recommended to use a separate internal water vase or vials for live stems.
