This antique hand painted vase is a particularly rare find. The vasetto originates from Grottaglie, a town in southern Puglia known for its ceramic craft and tradition. Dating back to the mid 1800s, it features hand painted festoons and plant motifs in soft blues, yellows, greens and oranges cascading from the top, with an abstract design around the main body. Along with the two handles, the hand crafted vase still has its original decorated lid. The large vase was primarily ornamental, taking pride of place on the mantle piece of the family home, often gifted to newly weds. It has that magical patina brought about authentically by the passing of time and daily use. Today, this hand thrown vessel can be used as vase for fresh flowers or a decorative display piece adding some southern Italian charm to any space.
