An antique hand thrown amphora from the early 1800s used to store liquids (most commonly olive oil or wine). This charmingly rustic piece originates from the southern Italian region of Puglia and is called a ‘trimmone’ and features the original cork stopper used to seal its contents. The luminous cream-coloured glaze on this amphora was common to local domestic pottery, especially with ceramics storing food, olive oil or wine. Called ‘robba bianca’ it represents the finest kind of ‘ceramica rustica’, and is produced with a pewter glaze and twice fired. Specific to the Grottaglie tradition of ceramics, this traditional piece has a lot of character -seeing over 150 years of service to its family, and naturally showing its charming signs of age. This historical example would make the perfect decorative centrepiece adding some farmhouse charm to any home or space, especially when pared with the matching ceramic tableware as seen in the images.
Found in Lecce
the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.
Dimensions: H34cm x W20cm x D20cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
