Antique Ivory Glaze Scalloped Edge Plate 3

€130.00
Sold

An antique handmade plate with a scalloped edge that is typical of Pugliese farmhouse pottery. Dating back to the early 1900s, the simple yet elegant design is particular to Grottaglie, a town in southern Puglia famed for its age-old ceramic craft. The ivory pottery known as ‘robba bianca’ represents the finest kind of ‘ceramica rustica’, produced with a pewter glaze and twice fired, and is the most expensive of this rural ceramic. The old pottery from Puglia, like this plate has a rustic handmade, farmhouse feel, and traditionally would have been in daily use at family meal times. The antique plate shows signs of its years of use and has developed a wonderful patina over time. Today the hand thrown piece would make a lovely addition to the kitchen or table setting, especially when pared with the matching plates as seen in the images.

Found in Martina Franca

the elegant town of the valle d’Itria known for its notable examples of Baroque architecture.

Dimensions: H5cm x W28cm x D28cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen
