Antique Marbled Jar With Lid

€140.00
Sold

Antique hand thrown confit jar with an intact lid and an iridescent light brown glaze. The old technique of a marbled glaze is common to Grottaglie, a town in Puglia renowned for its age old ceramic craft. Originally the terracotta jar was used for preserving foods such as anchovies or sardines fresh from the Mediterranean sea, or vegetables in olive oil, and dates back to the early 1900s. What makes this antique piece special is that no two pots are the same due to the unique glaze, along with the vessel coming with its original lid. Today, it would be ideal for storage or used as a vase for fresh flowers. Create an impactful display with the matching jars as seen in the images.

Found in Lecce

the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.

Dimensions: H20.5cm x W14cm x D14cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
