An antique hand-thrown jug with the pinched spout and glossy pistachio green yellow glaze common to the Puglia region. Called a ‘srulu’ in local Pugliese dialect, it hails from Grottaglie, a town in southern Puglia known for its age-old ceramic craft and tradition. This large jug dates back to the mid 1800s and was originally used for serving wine at family mealtimes. The charming piece features a wide opening with a pinched spout shaped like an upside-down human nose, common to wine vessels of the region. The ceramic pitcher also comes with that well-loved patina that only years of daily use and the passing of time can authentically bring about. Today, this unique farmhouse jug could also be utilised as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece adding a pop of colour to any home or space.
Found in Ostuni
the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as la città bianca (or ‘white city’).
Dimensions: H24cm x W18cm x D16cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen. To utilise as a vase, it is recommended to use a separate internal water vase or vials for live stems.
