Antique Rustic Farmhouse Plate
An antique hand thrown plate with a rich buttermilk-hue glaze, typical of traditional Pugliese pottery. Dating back to the mid 1800s, the simple yet elegant design is common to Grottaglie, a town in southern Puglia famed for its age-old ceramic craft. Traditionally this handmade plate would have been in daily use at meal times, often with the family eating off the same plate. The rustic plate is numbered at the back with a number 5, and most likely belonged to a set of plates. It is rendered all the more unique thanks to its rustic patina brought about authentically by years of daily use and the passing of time. Today, the farmhouse plate would make a lovely addition to a kitchen bench or table setting, adding some country charm, especially when pared with the matching ceramic tableware as seen in the images.
Found in Lecce
the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.
Dimensions: H4.5cm x W28.5cm x D28.5cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
