Antique Rustic Green Splatter Passata Bowl

€130.00
Sold

Passata Bowls, also known as 'limmi,' originate from Puglia and they take the form of rustic handmade clay or terracotta bowls. This antique hand thrown example from the early 1900s was originally used to make tomato passata or to wash fruit and vegetables. This passata bowl in particular features a charming, glazed interior of splattered pastel green over a buttermilk cream base. This splatter effect was added to keep insects and flies away from the passata or food. This surface application of the Pugliese limmi were spontaneously created by hand, meaning each is a unique piece with its own characterful pattern. The large bowl has aged beautifully with its own particular patina, and the external clay unglazed and on display. The antique vessel makes an ideal fruit bowl, perfect to add some farmhouse charm to a kitchen or table setting.

Found in Lecce

the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.

Dimensions: H17.5cm x W32cm x D32cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
