Antique Rustic Green Stripe Bowl

€195.00
Sold

A charming hand painted terracotta bowl that is typical of Pugliese ceramics, with a minimalism that renders it quite ‘modern’ in design. Dating back to the mid 1800s, the antique bowl features hand painted thick pistachio green and thin ochre brown stripes around the rim and center, set against a rich buttermilk glaze base. This rare hand thrown piece would have been primarily used for domestic purposes up until the mid 1900s serving a family during meal times. Traditionally the family would all eat out of the same bowl, beginning with the father and ending with the children. The old farmhouse pottery from Puglia, like this bowl, is thick and robust, and has a lovely handmade feel. The antique bowl shows signs of its years of use and has developed a wonderful authentic patina over time. This piece would make a lovely addition to a kitchen bench top or table, especially when teamed with the matching plates as seen in the images.

Found in Martina Franca

the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known for its baroque architecture.

Dimensions: H6cm x W27cm x D27cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
