Antique Rustic Orange Stripe Plate

€125.00

A charming hand painted plate that is typical of Pugliese ceramics, with a minimalism that renders it quite ‘modern’ in design. Dating back to the late 1800s, the medium-sized antique plate features hand painted thick orange and thin blue stripes around the rim and inner edge, set against a buttermilk glaze base. The hand thrown plate would have been primarily used for domestic purposes up until the mid 1900s serving a family during meal times. Traditionally the family would all eat off the same plate, beginning with the father and ending with the children. The old farmhouse pottery from Puglia, like this plate, is thick and robust, and has a lovely handmade feel. The antique plate shows signs of its years of use and has developed a wonderful authentic patina over time. This piece would make a lovely addition to the kitchen bench top or table, especially when teamed with the matching larger plate as seen in the images.

Found in Martina Franca

the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known for its baroque architecture.

Dimensions: H4cm x W23.5cm x D23.5cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
