An antique confit pot dating back to the late 1800s and originating from Calvello, a small town in Basilicata known for its age old ceramic craft. The handmade pot called a ‘salaturu’ in local dialect was originally used for preserving food in salt brine, such as olives, anchovies or sardines. The rare rustic vessel features two ridged crescent handles and a soft pastel blue glaze around the rim that renders it particularly unique. This type of rural ceramic pottery was typically only partially glazed - internally and around the top edge for hygiene and economical purposes, as it was expensive to glaze the entire pot. The antique pot features that magic patina brought about authentically from years of daily use. Add some rustic farmhouse character to your home or space with this hand thrown vessel and the matching pots from Calvello as seen in the images. They make ideal vases for fresh flowers or are just as perfect as decorative pieces - adding some colour and creating an impactful display.

Found in Ostuni

the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as la città bianca (or ‘white city’).

Dimensions: H27cm x W22cm x D22cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
