Antique Turquoise Glaze Confit Pot 2
An antique confit pot dating back to the late 1800s and originating from Calvello, a small town in Basilicata known for its age old ceramic craft. The handmade pot called a ‘salaturu’ in local dialect was originally used for preserving food in salt brine, such as olives, anchovies or sardines. The rare rustic vessel features two ridged crescent handles and a soft pastel blue glaze around the rim that renders it particularly unique. This type of rural ceramic pottery was typically only partially glazed - internally and around the top edge for hygiene and economical purposes, as it was expensive to glaze the entire pot. The antique pot features that magic patina brought about authentically from years of daily use.
