This antique and rare piece of pottery was originally used to store herbs and spices and ointments for medicinal purposes. The hand thrown vase dating back to the 1800s, is called a ‘vasettu ti spezzeria’ (herb jar) in local dialect and originates from Puglia. The antique ceramic pharmacy jar has a wonderfully vivacious yellow glaze that gives way to the raw clay at its base. The ‘vasetto’ also features two small twisted handles and sgraffito banding around the top edge. The vessel has a well-loved patina from years of daily use and the passing of time, giving it infinite charm. Today, this charming vase would make a lovely vase for fresh flowers adding a splash of colour to any home or space.
Found in Lecce
