Hand Painted Terracotta Lidded Pot

€25.00
Sold

Vintage hand painted sugar pot typical of traditional Pugliese ceramics. The pared-back blue floral design around the edge and lid with burgundy banding, and set against the buttermilk glaze is characteristic of this region. The old pottery from Puglia, like this piece, is robust and traditionally made for daily domestic use which gives it a lovely handmade, rustic feel. The charming ‘rigo and stella’ motif are typically very simple and particular to Grottaglie - a small town famous for its ceramics. The pot works well as storage, or simply as a decorative display item.

Found in Lecce

the capital of the Salento famous for its baroque architecture.

Dimensions: H15cm x W10cm x D10cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
