Large Antique Green Glaze Jug
An antique hand-thrown jug with the pinched spout and glossy green glaze that is symbolic of the Puglia region. Called a ‘srulu’ in local Pugliese dialect, it hails from Grottaglie, a town in southern Puglia known for its age-old ceramic craft and tradition. This large jug dates back to the late 1800s and was originally used for serving wine at family mealtimes. The charming piece features a wide opening with a pinched spout shaped like an upside-down human nose, common to wine vessels of the region. The ceramic pitcher also comes with that well-loved patina that only years of daily use and the passing of time can authentically bring about. Today, this unique jug could also be utilised as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece adding a pop of colour to any home or space. Create an impactful table-scape with the matching iridescently green glazed plates and bowls, as seen in the images.
