This antique confit pot has a minimal and spontaneous hand painted motif in pistachio green adorning the front and originates from the southern Italian region of Calabria. Dating back to the mid 1800s, it was originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs or olives in olive oil. The abstract tree of life motif depicted on these farmhouse vessels were usually added by an artist, signifying good fortune and longevity and designed with the hopes of a bountiful harvest that would bring prosperity to the rural folk at the time. The hand crafted vasetto features that magically rustic patina that only daily use and the passing of time can authentically bring about. Today, this charming piece would make an ideal vase for fresh or dried flowers or simply as a decorative display piece.
