Passata Bowls, also known as 'limmi,' originate from southern Italy and they take the form of rustic handmade clay or terracotta bowls. This antique hand thrown example from the early 1900s originates from Calabria and was originally used to make tomato passata or to wash fruit and vegetables. The large passata bowl is particularly unique due to its charming splatter glaze interior in a soft pastel green hue. The green splatter effect was added to keep insects and flies away from the passata or food. This surface application of the southern Italian limmi were spontaneously created by hand, meaning each is a unique piece with its own characterful pattern. The large bowl has aged beautifully with its own particular patina, and the external clay unglazed and on display. The antique vessel is the ideal piece to add some farmhouse charm to a kitchen or table setting, or outdoors in the garden.
