Large Antique Tree of Life Confit Pot
This antique confit pot has a minimal and spontaneous hand painted motif adorning the front and originates from the southern Italian region of Calabria. Dating back to the late 1700s, it was originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs or olives in olive oil. The hand painted abstract tree of life motif signifies good fortune and longevity, designed with the hopes of a bountiful harvest bringing prosperity to the rural folk. The large confit pot is a rare find, as the tree of life design is usually depicted in green, with the older pots hand painted in this mustard yellow hue. It features that magically rustic patina that only daily use and the passing of time can authentically bring about. Today, this charming piece would make an ideal vase for fresh or dried flowers or simply as a decorative display piece. Add impact with the matching ceramic vessels as seen in the images.
Found in Ostuni
the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as la città bianca (or ‘white city’).
Dimensions: H35cm x W27cm x D25cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen. To utilise as vases, it is recommended to use a separate internal water vase or vials for live stems.
