A unique and beautifully formed hand thrown terracotta pot from Puglia. The iridescent black glaze and 3-D florets are particular to the small Salento town of Lucugnano. The Pugliese town is known for its age old ceramic craft, whose decorative elements set it apart from other ceramics of the region. This antique piece dating back to the late 1800s would have been traditionally used for preserving food and local delicacies. The pot features the iridescent half glaze, elegant form and handles and raised flower relief that sets it apart from other confit pots from Puglia. Today this rustic pot would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece, especially when pared with the matching Lucugnano ceramics as seen in the images.

Found in Lucugnano
