Large Antique Crinkle Edge Bowl

€180.00
Sold

A very charming antique bowl typical of Pugliese ceramics. Dating back to the late 1800s, the butter-milk glazed bowl features the crinkle cut edge that is symbolic of the Puglia region. The design is particular to Grottaglie, a town in southern Puglia famed for its age-old ceramic craft. The ivory pottery known as ‘robba bianca’ represents the finest kind of ‘ceramica rustica’, usually produced with a pewter glaze and twice fired, and is the most expensive of this rural ceramic. The well loved piece shows its characteristic signs of age with a wonderful patina, and was used for domestic use up until the mid 1900s. This piece would make a lovely addition to the kitchen or table setting, adding some country charm, especially when teamed with the matching bowls as seen in the images.

Found in Ostuni

the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as ‘la città bianca’ (or white city).

Dimensions: H11cm x W31cm x D31cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
