This antique confit pot with its hand painted abstract diamond motif in verdant green originates from Calabria, Italy. This antique pot dates back to the mid 1800s and was originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs or olives in olive oil. Typical to the southern Italian region, this pot is particularly rare due to the uniqueness of the design - as confit pots from Calabria are usually depicted with a tree of life motif hand painted in green. The pot features that magical patina brought about authentically by years of daily use and the passing of time. What makes this one extra special is that it comes with a matching smaller pot as seen in the images. Today, this charmingly rustic vessel would make an ideal vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece.

Found in Squillace

a hilltop town in Calabria known for its ancient ceramic craft.

Dimensions: H22cm x W20cm x D16cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
