An extra large, statement-making jug historically used for wine and originating from Basilicata, Italy. This antique jug dating back to the mid 1800s has a beautifully hand painted floral and leaf motif in vibrant hues of plum red, violet blue, grass green, ochre brown and sunshine yellow, typical of the southern Italian region. What makes this jug a unique find is its extra large proportions. The hand thrown ceramic jug with its white glaze features an elegant sculptural form, as well as pinched spout resembling an upside down nose, common to pitchers from southern Italy. The rustic piece features that magical patina that only the passing of time and daily use can bring about authentically. The charming vessel would make a lovely addition to the kitchen, or utilised as a vase for fresh flowers. Create an impactful display when pared with the matching ceramics as seen in the photos.
