A rare hand-painted majolica pitcher historically used for wine and originating from Grottaglie in southern Puglia. This one-of-a-kind antique jug dating back to the mid 1800s features a charming floral and leaf motif with a lobed rim, in hues of sky blue, olive green and mustard yellow, characteristic of traditional Pugliese pottery. The hand thrown ceramic jug with its creamy white glaze features an elegantly bulbous sculptural form, as well as pinched spout resembling an upside down nose, designed for pouring and common to pitchers from southern Italy. The rustic piece features that magical patina that only the passing of time and daily use can bring about authentically. The charming vessel would make a lovely addition to the kitchen, or utilised as a vase for fresh flowers. Create an impactful display when pared with the matching larger ceramic jug as seen in the photos.
