Large Antique Hand Painted Vase

€190.00
Sold

Antique hand-thrown vase with elegantly ‘kinked’ handles , and a lovely hand painted abstract floral and ‘evil eye’ motif that renders it very unique. Whilst water and wine jugs from Puglia usually have the most extensive decorations, this vase with its decorative design would have taken pride of place in a Pugliese palazzo. From the San Pietro in Lama area and dating back to the late 1800s, the decoration is more whimsical than usually seen on domestic, utility pieces of the region. The splashes of indigo blue and sky blue with a touch of soft yellow against the ivory glaze, adds a freshness. Today, this wonderful piece of with its truly one of a kind pattern would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece.

Found in San Pietro in Lama

a small town in Salento famous for its ceramic craft.

Dimensions: H31cm x W22cm x D14cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration.
