This antique vase with its iridescent creamy white glaze and elegant simplicity is a particularly rare find. Dating back to the mid 1800s, it originates from the southern Pugliese town of Grottaglie, known for its ancient ceramic craft and tradition. Called ‘robba bianca’ locally, it represents the finest and most expensive type of pottery in Puglia, being twice fired with its pearlescent glaze and intricately hand crafted details. This vasetto would have been considered a valuable piece and taken pride of place in a noble family’s palazzo. The hand-thrown vessel features unique stylised handles, and decorative detailing including thumb imprints around the main body and handles, typical of this type of refined pottery. Today, this charming piece would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece that would work effortlessly in any home or space, especially when pared with the matching vase as seen in the images.
