This hand crafted terracotta plant pot from Puglia is a rare find. Dating back to the mid 1800s, the rustic vessel features two ‘faces’ on either side of the swag detailing. Plant pots with ‘mascherone’ were traditionally placed at the entrances of homes and these faces were added to ward off the ‘malocchio’ (a malevolent glare). The antique plant pot with its wonderful sculptural swag relief on all sides also features a scalloped fluted edge around its opening. The rustic plant pot has wonderful form is unglazed internally and externally, highlighting the hand crafted 3D surface decoration and its magical patina brought about authentically from years of daily use and the passing of time.
