Large Antique Terracotta Passata Bowl

€160.00

Passata Bowls, also known as 'limmi,' originate from southern Italy and they take the form of rustic, handmade terracotta bowls. This large passata bowl dates back to the 1800s from the southern Italian region of Calabria and was originally used to make tomato passata or to wash fruit and vegetables. The rustic bowl features a charming, glazed interior of splattered pesto-hued green over a creamy base. This splatter effect was added to keep insects and flies away from the passata or food. This surface application of the limmi was created by hand, meaning each is a unique piece with its own characterful pattern. The large bowl has that perfectly imperfect, authentic patina brought about from years of daily use, with the external terracotta unglazed and on display. The antique vessel is perfect to add some farmhouse charm to a kitchen or table setting, or as a unique storage vessel. Create an impactful display with the matching passata bowl as seen in the images.

Found in Lecce

the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.

Dimensions: H18cm x W40cm x D40cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
