This antique confit pot has a minimal and spontaneous hand painted motif adorning the front and originates from the southern Italian region of Calabria. Dating back to the early 1800s, it was originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs or olives in olive oil. The hand painted abstract tree of life motif signifies good fortune and longevity, designed with the hopes of a bountiful harvest bringing prosperity to the rural folk. This confit pot is particularly rare with its dual-coloured tree of life design hand painted in pistachio green and mustard yellow, which can also be seen on the pot’s handles. It features that magically rustic patina that only daily use and the passing of time can authentically bring about. Today, this charming piece would make an ideal vase for fresh or dried flowers or simply as a decorative display piece. Add impact with the matching ceramic vessels as seen in the images.
Found in Ostuni
the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as la città bianca (or ‘white city’).
Dimensions: H25cm x W22cm x D20cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen. To utilise as vases, it is recommended to use a separate internal water vase or vials for live stems.
