A very charming hand painted antique bowl typical of Pugliese ceramics. Dating back to the late 1800s, the small rustic bowl features the crinkle cut edge and blue floral motif that is a symbol of the Puglia region. The design is particular to Grottaglie, a town famed for its age-old ceramic craft, where circles are combined to create rosettes or star formations. Since the 1800s the flowers were made with stencils, originally cut from sponges. The old stoneware from Puglia, is thick and robust, and has a lovely handmade, rustic feel. The well loved piece shows its characteristic signs of age with a wonderful patina, and was used for domestic use up until the mid 1900s. This piece would make a lovely addition to the kitchen or table setting, especially when teamed with the matching bowls as seen in the images.

Found in Ostuni

the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as ‘la città bianca’ (or white city).

Dimensions: H5.5cm x W17cm x D17cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
