Set of 2 Antique Hand Painted Bowls

€160.00
Sold

A charming set of 2 hand painted serving bowls, typical of Pugliese ceramics. Dating back to the early 1900s, the charming blue floral design or ‘rigo and stella’ pattern around the edge and burgundy banding set against the buttermilk glaze is characteristic of this region. The old terracotta pottery from Puglia, like these bowls, is thick and robust, and has a lovely handmade, rustic feel. It would have been primarily used for domestic use and more specifically to serve a family helping of pasta in the centre of a table for Sunday lunch. The hand painted designs are typically very simple and would make a lovely addition to the kitchen, as decorative display or a great centrepiece on a table for fruit.

Found in Grottaglie

the small town in Puglia famous for its ceramic craft.

Dimensions: Large Bowl H12cm x W32cm x D31cm / Small Bowl H11cm x W25.5cm x D25.5cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
