Vintage Hand Painted Wine Flask

€95.00

This hand painted ceramic wine flask from Sicily is a rare find. The vintage piece dating back to the mid 1900s features two designs on either side - floral motif on one side and a depiction of the Sicilian hilltop town of Caltagirone on the other. The back stamp has the letters B.A.C.A (an acronym for Bottega Artigiana Ceramica Artistica) which was one of Caltagirone's most prestigious historic factories and workshops. Active between the late 1940s and up until the late 1960s/70s, it was particularly renowned for its artisanal production of majolica. The pieces from the factory feature decorations and enamels typical of the Caltagirone tradition, with bright colours such as blue, yellow, green and orange. Today this vintage vessel would make a lovely decorative display piece, especially when teamed with the matching pottery from southern Italy, as seen in the images.

Found in Lecce

the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.

Dimensions: H15cm x W12cm x D6cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
