Vintage Stripe 'Zuppiera' from Vietri

€290.00
Sold

This vintage ‘zuppiera’ (soup bowl or terrine) with accompanying lid has a distinctive hand painted stripe and is a particularly rare find. Although not having the maker’s mark, the hand crafted pot with handles can be attributed to C.A.S. (Ceramiche Artistica Solimene) from Vietri Italy, a small town on the Amalfi coast known for its age old ceramic tradition. The one of a kind piece was most likely made in the Gambone era of the 1930s/40s, and features a thick hand painted all over stripe in turquoise green, with a narrow stripe in ink blue, set against the milky base. Traditionally la zuppiera was used to hold minestrone or other soups, with this statement-making pot taking pride of place in a family’s kitchen credenza. With its striking design, the vintage vessel would make a lovely addition to the kitchen or table setting, especially when pared with the matching ceramics from Vietri, as seen in the images.

Found in Lecce

the capital and baroque jewel of the Salento.

Dimensions: H20cm x W25cm x D23cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
