XL Antique Turquoise Splatter Glaze Passata Bowl

€290.00

Passata Bowls, also known as 'limmi,' originate from southern Italy and they take the form of rustic handmade clay or terracotta bowls. This hand thrown terracotta example from the early 1900s hails from the southern Italian region of Calabria, and was used to make tomato passata or to wash fruit and vegetables. What sets this passata bowl apart from others, besides its extra large proportions, is the turquoise green glaze creating a spotted effect. This mesmerising splatter glaze was originally added to keep insects and flies away from the passata or food. The surface application of the southern Italian limmi was spontaneously created by hand, meaning each is a unique piece with its own characterful pattern. The extra large bowl has aged beautifully with its own particular patina, and the external terracotta unglazed and on display. The antique vessel is the perfect piece to add some farmhouse charm to a table setting or garden/outdoor space. Create impact with the matching green splattered ceramic bowls as seen in the images.

Found in Ostuni

the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as la città bianca (or ‘white city’).

Dimensions: H25cm x W56cm x D56cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
