XL Antique Green Splatter Passata Bowl
Passata Bowls, also known as 'limmi,' originate from Puglia and they take the form of rustic, robust bowls. This large passata bowl dates back to the early 1900s from the southern Italian region of Puglia and was originally used to make tomato passata or to wash fruit and vegetables. The rustic bowl features a charming, glazed interior of splattered pesto-hued green over a creamy base. This splatter effect was added to keep insects and flies away from the passata or food. This surface application of the Pugliese limmi was created by hand, meaning each is a unique piece with its own characterful pattern. The large bowl has aged beautifully with that authentic, magical patina from years of daily use, with the external clay unglazed and on display.
