A very rare find. This antique jug with a charming hand painted ‘face’ or crest motif on the front dates back to the early 1800s and originates from Puglia in southern Italy. The one-of-a-kind extra large pitcher features a unique decorative design around the main body as well as the eye motif traditionally added to ward off the ‘malocchio’ (a malevolent glare) as well as the pinched spout typical of wine jugs from the southern Italian region. This hand-thrown ceramic pitcher would have taken pride of place in a family home. It features a well loved patina brought about authentically from years of daily use and the passing of time. Today, this statement-making jug with its distinctive design would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece. Add impact with the matching farmhouse jugs from Puglia as seen in the images.

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen. To utilise as a vase, it is recommended to use a separate internal water vase or vials for live stems.
