Passata Bowls, also known as 'limmi,' originate from southern Italy and they take the form of rustic handmade clay or terracotta bowls. This antique hand thrown example from the early 1900s originates from Puglia and was originally used to make tomato passata or to wash fruit and vegetables. This extra-large ceramic passata bowl is particularly unique due to its internal pastel green glaze, differing from the more pronounced green splatter glaze usually found on farmhouse bowls of the southern Italian region. The large rustic bowl has aged beautifully with its own particular patina, and the external clay is left unglazed and on display. The antique vessel is the ideal piece to add some Mediterranean charm to a kitchen or outdoors in the garden, especially when pared with the matching green-hued vase as seen in the images.
Found in Martina Franca
the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known for its baroque architecture.
