XL Antique Rustic Green 'Righe & Stelle' Plate

€190.00

This extra large hand painted serving plate is a rare piece of Pugliese domestic pottery. Dating back to the early 1800s, the charming floral design or ‘righe & stelle’ pattern around the edge is characteristic of the town of Grottaglie - known for its age old ceramic craft. What sets this rustic farmhouse-style plate apart is the unique hue of pastel green used on the traditional floral motif that borders the edge. The hand thrown plate would have been in use up until the mid 1900s, and specifically to serve a family during meal times, where they would eat off the same plate beginning with the father and ending with the children. The well loved piece shows its characteristic signs of age with a wonderful patina brought about authentically by the passing of time and daily use. The large antique platter would make a lovely addition to any kitchen bench top or table setting, or hung as wall art.
